01Overview

StageOne 2 Upgrade is intended for existing owners of the original StageOne plugin. Leapwing Audio describes version 2 as a substantial overhaul focused on stereo spreading and soundstage manipulation. The update adds five algorithms: WIDTH, DEPTH, PHASE RECOVERY, MONO SPREAD and CENTER GRAVITY. Together they cover widening, adding a sense of depth, turning mono sources into stereo and rebalancing the image left or right. The full version of StageOne 2 is sold separately for users who do not own StageOne.

Stereo Width and Depth Controls

The WIDTH algorithm stretches the stereo field, moving off-center content toward and possibly beyond the speakers. Leapwing Audio says it keeps the phantom center intact while expanding or remapping the surrounding elements.

The DEPTH algorithm adds directionally optimized reflections to the sound field. The developer presents this as a way to add a sense of depth to the audio. A 3-band layout lets you apply these controls across the frequency range rather than to the whole signal at once.

Mono Spread, Phase Recovery and Center Gravity

MONO SPREAD uses a filter design that turns mono signals into pseudo-stereo. It can also push center content in a stereo signal toward the sides, which is useful when a mix feels too narrow in the middle.

PHASE RECOVERY identifies out-of-phase components and re-aligns them, which Leapwing Audio says helps avoid information loss when the signal is summed to mono. CENTER GRAVITY lets you tilt the stereo image to the left or right for precise rebalancing.
