01Overview

RootOne is an effects plugin from Leapwing Audio built to reinforce the low end of a mix. It works across three subharmonic bands, letting producers add weight below existing bass material and balance one part of a mix against another. The developer positions its analysis-synthesis approach as an alternative to traditional pitch-shifting, aiming for subharmonics that sit cleanly with the original sound. It is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS.

Clean Subharmonics Through Pitch Detection

Rather than pitch-shifting the signal, RootOne relies on pitch detection and an analysis-synthesis algorithm to generate its subharmonics. Leapwing Audio says this makes the plugin usable on a wider range of sources than conventional solutions, and that the generated content is artefact-free and phase-aligned.

Because the added frequencies follow the original signal, the developer says they fit the character of your existing bass rather than sitting on top of it as a separate layer. This is aimed at avoiding frequency interference and a sense of detachment in the low end.

Controls for Each Subharmonic Band

Each of the three subharmonic bands has its own control over dynamics, release and drive, so you can shape how much low-end each band adds and how it decays. Lower midrange harmonics can also be added to help new bass frequencies fit the rest of the mix.

The interface places the most common controls on one screen, with finer adjustments available nearby. The simple layout is designed so you can see the effect of each change as you hear it.
