01Overview

Al Schmitt is Leapwing Audio's first signature plugin, developed with the producer-engineer whose career spans decades of recordings. Leapwing says its team studied his workflow, gear and processing choices, from subtle harmonic character to echo, compression and EQ, and turned those findings into the plugin's core features. The result is a plugin with six separate profiles, each tuned to a different source, and a set of controls kept deliberately small so you can reach a usable sound quickly.

Six Profiles Built Around Instrument Types

The plugin includes profiles for vocal, piano, bass, brass, strings and mix bus. Each profile has its own set of parameters for harmonics, EQ, compression and echo, and Leapwing says each one reflects how Al Schmitt approaches that instrument.

The mix bus profile lets you apply the same character to a full stereo or submix signal instead of a single track. Because the controls are grouped per profile, switching between sources does not require learning a new interface.

Echo and Harmonic Character

The developer describes the reverbs as echoes, using three echo types so you can choose between three tuned reflection patterns depending on the source. Harmonic generation is tuned separately for each profile to add warmth and depth.

The instrument profiles are low latency, which makes them suitable for use while recording as well as mixing.
