01Overview

Solidus Randy 250 is built around two Randall solid-state heads. The developer models the RG100ES, a late-1980s amp associated with a lot of 80s metal, and the RH150, a later and more heavily gained design. Both are known for a large low end and aggressive gain. Beyond the amp models, the plugin adds a noise gate, a Wild Drive section, two EQ stages, a post-amp equalizer and a dual cabinet loader, so you can shape a guitar sound from the input to the cabinet within one plugin.

Two Randall Amp Models and Their Character

The RG channel set covers two modes, Green and Red, with an overdrive boost for extra push. The RH model adds a clean channel with its own boost, and an overdrive channel with dual gain, so you can move from clean tones to heavy distortion within the same amp.

Resonance-style control is handled by the amp section itself, so the sound comes from the modeled head rather than from separate effects. Audiority describes both amps as having a huge low end and crushing gain, which points to their use in heavy rhythm guitar.

Controls for Shaping Guitar Tone

The signal chain is flexible. A noise gate helps keep high-gain settings quiet between notes. The Wild Drive section adds an extra layer of distortion, and the EQ Duo combines a 6-band EQ with a 3-band parametric EQ or booster. After the amp, a 5-band post-amp equalizer lets you adjust the final tone.

The integrated dual cabinet simulator loads two cabinets at once. Cabinets come from Dr Bonkers Sound Lab, Eddie Scharr, Redwirez and Seacow Cabs, so you can compare speaker and mic combinations without leaving the plugin.

The interface can be resized, and a standalone mode lets you run the plugin without a host DAW.
