01Overview

PSP Datamix A567 is a three-band equalizer plugin built around a model of the Datamix console EQ module. Beyond the bands, the plugin models a preamp section on the input and an output section with transformer emulation, so it adds character even with the bands left flat. The developer describes the Datamix board as a sound associated with the Record Plant and Electric Lady studios. The plugin runs on Windows and macOS in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats.

Sound Character and EQ Behavior

PSP Audioware designed the Datamix A567 so that it rarely sounds neutral. Its preamp and output sections add coloration even when all three bands are set to zero, so the plugin works as a tonal tool and not only as a corrective EQ.

The Low band uses peaking on boost and peaking or shelving on cut, depending on frequency. The Mid band offers peaking boost and notch-type cut, and the High band offers peaking boost with shelving cut. Alt Q mode fixes Q for each band regardless of frequency for a gentler curve, while Sharp mode adds pronounced resonance in the High band.

The developer notes that displayed gain and frequency values may differ from actual values, which is typical of analog equalizers.

Tuning Options and Channel Spread

The plugin lets you choose how a channel is tuned. You can select an average setting, an ideal setting that matches the precise frequencies printed on the control labels, or a specific channel's tuning. This changes the sound character of the EQ.

An adjustable left/right channel tuning spread lets you introduce differences between the two channels, which can add width or variation to a stereo mix bus or individual stereo track.

FAT double sampling is switched on automatically at sample rates below 50 kHz and off at higher rates, and the plugin uses 64-bit double precision math throughout the filters.
