01Overview

PSP ConsoleQ is a British console-style equalizer designed for shaping audio at any stage of production. The developer positions it for fixing problems in a recording or making a track stand out in a mix, whatever the source. Its filters use 64-bit double precision math, and sample-rate-dependent oversampling is switched automatically. The plugin is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS.

Console-Style EQ Bands and Filter Behavior

ConsoleQ provides four bands: shelving low and high pass filters, plus peaking low mid and high mid bands with adjustable gain-following Q values. Equalization can be applied to either or both input channels. The LF and HF bands can also be set to act as peaking filters instead of shelves.

As with many analog equalizers, displayed values for gain, frequency and Q may differ slightly from the actual parameter values. The developer notes this is a typical trait of analog designs.

In version 2, frequency control is smoothly adjustable for all bands, and numerical value displays help with precise settings.

Saturation, Analysis and Processing Details

An optional second-generation SAT (saturation) stage sits after the output level control. PSP Audioware says it protects against digital clipping in downstream software or hardware and adds a smooth overdriven sound to hard-driven signals. Its ceiling reference is set a fraction of a dB below 0 dBFS.

FAT double sampling switches on automatically at sample rates below 50 kHz and off at higher rates. The plugin includes a 30-band bar analyzer with an optional spectrum curve display. A separate PSP Spector PSPEC-31 pop-up module is also described, offering a 31-band realtime analyzer and one-click control of multiple bands.
