01Overview

Prophecy brings KORG's 1990s physical modeling synthesizer into a modern software format. Its MOSS oscillator models cover analog-style tones, cross and ring modulation, VPM phase modulation, noise-based timbres and three physical modeling types. Version 1.5 added 180 new programs, some created with participation from the original Prophecy sound designers.

Oscillator Models and Sound Character

Prophecy uses five of the seven oscillator types from the MOSS synthesis engine. The Standard oscillator simulates analog oscillators and adds pulse width modulation. The Noise and Comb Filtering oscillator extracts tone components from white noise and can produce everything from synth basses to strings.

The VPM oscillator creates rich harmonics through phase modulation, while the Cross, Ring and Modulation and Sync oscillator can produce chiming, metallic tones similar to bells. The three physical modeling oscillators simulate brass, reed and plucked string instruments. Brass and reed models respond to key velocity and the mod wheel.

Signal Routing, Wave Shaping and Presets

Each oscillator output can pass through a nonlinear wave shaper with CLIP or RESO modes. The original waveform can be mixed back in, so sounds range from mildly processed to heavily altered. A sub oscillator and noise generator can be combined in two mixer sections.

The library includes 128 preset programs in 14 categories, plus a user bank and favorites. The GUI is divided into SYNTH, FX and ARP sections. Two optional expansion cards were sold for the original hardware, ANALOG and VINTAGE and MODERN MODELS, and are available for the software as well.
