01Overview

Pripyat is MNTRA Instruments' first release focused on synthetic textures. Its source material includes electromagnetic interference recorded at an electrical substation, unstable vintage analog synths processed through guitar pedals and Eurorack modular effects, and ultrasonic recordings of dry ice on a Marimbaphone and a bombo drum. The instrument runs on the MNDALA sound design engine, which expands these recordings into playable instruments and soundscapes.

Sound Character and Source Material

Pripyat centers on cold, industrial textures. MNTRA recorded much of the core material from electromagnetic interference, which is normally inaudible to the human ear, and then re-amped it through acoustic resonators. Vintage analog synthesizers add warbling, unstable tones, and guitar pedals and Eurorack modules shape them further.

The library includes ten sample maps, with up to 18 round robins per instrument, so repeated notes and hits can avoid sounding identical.

Instruments and Workflow in MNDALA

The library includes ten instruments grouped into electromagnetic, synth, percussion and FX categories. Electromagnetic sources include Transistor and Buzz Pad. Synth instruments include Cinematic Drone, Dark Drone, Shimmer Pad and Chaos Pad. Percussion includes Sonar Drum and Radiated Drum. FX includes Frozen Marimbaphone and Industrial Scream.

Pripyat comes with 60 presets to start from. Its interactive animated interface, inspired by retro Soviet poster art, gives real-time control over the complex back-end parameters, so you can play it like a physical instrument.
