Sampled Aztec Death Whistles and Sound Character

The instrument captures a set of rare, handcrafted death whistles gathered through field research. Each whistle is named to reflect its own tonal character, and the developer describes the recordings as sounding distinctly different from one another.

UDW X sits on the MNDALA 2 Acoustic Synthesis Engine. Source samples are shaped by the engine's sound-shaping tools, so the instrument can move from raw whistle recordings into more processed textures. Recordings are made at 32-bit, 384kHz and played back at 24-bit, 96kHz to keep CPU use manageable.

Controls, Round Robins and Mic Positions

The interface is built around non-linear, simultaneous control of many parameters, which allows expressive shaping while playing. Up to 31 round robins and up to four microphone channels add variation and room for mixing.

The library includes 32 instrument sample maps, 12 of which use Sample Start Modulation, along with 78 presets. The presets are meant to show the new sound design features of the expanded version.
