01Overview

Hattricks 1.5 is built around a simple idea: each key triggers a looped rhythm division, so you can play hi-hat rolls in real time instead of clicking them in one note at a time. Divisions range from quarter notes to very fast rolls, and triplets are included. Samples can be swapped after the part is recorded, and the plugin supports drag-and-drop loading of your own audio files. The developer positions it for trap, with the ability to work across other genres.

How the Key-Based Rhythm Divisions Work

Hattricks assigns rhythm divisions to keys. Press one key and it plays a pre-programmed looped division; the next key plays a different one. The plugin offers 12 rhythm divisions, covering everything from quarter notes to fast rolls, along with triplet options.

You can record hi-hat parts in real time, or program them with the MIDI record drag and drop and pattern display. Tuning and fine-tuning sliders, start and end sample markers, and length controls let you shape each sound once the part is in place.

Samples, Articulations and Tuning

The library contains 898 samples: 853 hi-hats, 20 snares, 5 kicks, 5 shakers and 15 tonal sounds. You can also drag in your own MP3, AIFF, FLAC or OGG files, or use the dice button to pick a random sample.

Five articulations add drum rudiments such as flam, drag, ruff, buzz and roll, in two speeds. Two octaves of keys retune the sample in half steps, and pitch bend range has been increased to plus or minus 24 semitones. A low pass and high pass filter, and an AHD envelope, complete the sound-shaping controls.
