01Overview

GRIP focuses on the tire, wheel and chassis side of vehicle sound design, the part that usually comes after the engine is done. It produces skids, bumps, friction and rolling noise from five base vehicle types. You can work from interior or exterior perspectives, adjust angle and distance, and automate every parameter in real time. The plugin is described by Boom as an in-the-box tool that replaces manual sample cutting, crossfading, pitching and aligning.

Shaping Tire, Skid and Chassis Sound

GRIP builds vehicle sound from a set of adjustable parameters. Speed, grip and chassis intensity set the basic behavior of the vehicle. Skid amount, skid blending, skid pitch and surface blending control how tires interact with the ground. A detail amount control adds finer texture on top.

A built-in mixer lets you balance rolling, skid, detail, chassis and suspension layers. Suspension impacts can be triggered with a single tap, which helps when you need a bump on a specific frame.

The source material is a library of more than 650 MB of recordings that the developer says were prepared for this purpose.

Perspective, Automation and Use Cases

Switching between interior and exterior perspective changes the listening position, and angle and distance can be adjusted while you work. Because every parameter is automatable, you can draw a vehicle's sound to follow the picture, from a slow pull-away to a fast skid.

The developer positions GRIP for car commercials, races, motion picture, trailers and product demos. It can also produce vehicle one-shots and loops for interactive media and games.
