Filtomika Crossgrade from Atomika is an effect plugin built around the programmable op-amp filter of the Polivoks synthesizer, a design created by sound engineer Vladimir Kuzmin. Cherry Audio developed it from the multi-mode filter in its Atomika virtual instrument, with circuit-modeled DSP by Mark Barton. Beyond the original hardware, it adds Starve, Filter Drive and Amp Drive controls along with extra filter responses. It processes drums, guitars, synths and other sources, as an insert or bus effect.

Filter Character and Sound Shaping

The core of Filtomika is a virtual analog emulation of the Polivoks filter, which Cherry Audio extends with highpass, notch and peak responses in addition to the standard lowpass and bandpass modes.

The Starve, Filter Drive and Amp Drive controls push the signal into more aggressive territory. Cherry Audio describes the results as radical and often mysterious, which suits experimental sound design as well as more conventional filtering. The plugin accepts mono or stereo input sources.

Modulation and Envelope Following

A syncable LFO modulator offers ramp, sawtooth, triangle, square, noise and random (sample and hold) waveforms for moving the filter over time.

The envelope follower lets the relative amplitude of the input control cutoff frequency. Used with guitar, bass or drum loops, this produces autowah-style effects.
