01Overview

The EMT 140 is a plate reverb plugin that aims to reproduce the warmth and presence of the EMT 140 plate unit. Universal Audio developed it as a Universal Audio Native plug-in, so it is licensed and managed through UA Connect and iLok. It offers damping and filter controls for shaping classic plate tones, along with plug-in-only settings for Balance, Width and Modulation. It is a tool for producers who want a studio plate sound on vocals, drums and other sources.

Plate Textures and Authentic EMT Sound

Universal Audio says the plugin is modeled after three original vintage units and is endorsed by EMT International. Plates A and B reproduce the original EMT electronics system, with plates that had not been retuned in some time. Plate C is described as fuller in the frequency range, using serviced Martech electronics for a more open reverb with added presence and brightness.

The damping and filter controls let you dial in classic plate character across all three plates.

Balance, Width and Modulation for Mixing

The plug-in-only Balance control helps place a source within the reverb, such as pinpointing a snare tone. Width spreads the reverb out, which suits strings. Modulation adds shimmer, and Universal Audio points to lead vocals as a use for it.

These features let the EMT 140 be used in ways the hardware unit does not offer, making it useful across different sources in a mix.
