01Overview

KORG's ELECTRIBE-R brings the first-generation ELECTRIBE hardware concept into a software plugin. The developer describes it as a rhythm machine built around knobs, switches and step sequencers, so you can start building beats quickly. It is based on the iELECTRIBE for iPad release and expands the sound source, effects and pattern library. Formats include VST3, VST2, AU and AAX on Windows and macOS.

Sound Source and Effects for Beat Making

The sound source has nine parts: four synth parts with sine, triangle, square and sawtooth waveforms, plus PCM parts for hi-hats (open and closed), cymbals, claps/snare and accents. Each synth part can be processed by six modulation types, and the PCM parts offer six modulation types as well.

The effects section includes 15 types, among them a compressor, Valve Force for warm overdrive, distortion and a slicer. You can choose which part and step an effect applies to, which KORG presents as a way to create more varied sounds than the original ELECTRIBE-R.

Motion Sequencing and Step Sequencer Workflow

Motion sequencing records movements of knobs and switches. Unlike the original ELECTRIBE-R, which stored a limited set of parameters, this version can store all parameters per part. Two motion modes are available: Smooth, which connects changes between steps, and TRIG HOLD, which produces staircase-like changes.

The step sequencer lets you set the number of pattern steps freely and choose from nine resolutions, including 4-beat grids (1/8, 1/16, 1/32), 3-beat shuffle grids (1/12, 1/24) and grids for 5- and 7-beat patterns. A dedicated edit page shows mutes, solos, accents, effect sends and motion input for all parts.
