Dope is a boom bap drum machine plugin from UJAM that loads genre-specific drum kits and rhythmic patterns for producing golden-era hip-hop beats. It runs as a VST3, VST2, AU or AAX plugin on Windows and macOS.
Dope is built around the crunchy drums, swing and gritty tone associated with 90s boom bap. Instead of sourcing sounds from old records, producers load a kit, choose a style and trigger rhythmic phrases in real time. The plugin includes a Vinyl Drive tone control and Micro Timing for adjusting swing, and MIDI can be dragged into a DAW to edit or layer with other instruments.
Dope includes 10 boom bap drum kits and 20 styles with 460 patterns in total. Each kit is made for the genre, so you can load one and start producing without building a drum sound from scratch.
The sample grid lets you browse and tweak individual hits such as kick, snare and hi-hat. You can swap samples, preview them and shape each hit directly inside the plugin.
The Advanced Mixing Page gives you control over each track, including volume, pan, filter, ambience and saturation, with individual output routing. The Intelligent Browser lets you filter by mood, genre or BPM and preview kits and loops.
A custom keyboard layout lets you assign loops and phrases to keys for live arranging. Found a pattern you like? Drag the MIDI into your DAW to customize it or layer it with your own instruments.

Dope is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. All plug-in formats are 64-bit only.
Dope runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11, and on macOS Catalina (10.15) through macOS Monterey (12.5). It is supported on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs.
You need at least 4 GB of RAM, 720 MB of free disk space, a 1280x768 pixel display and an internet connection. Authorization uses an email and password within the plug-in or the UJAM app.
