01Overview

The kit was recorded by Soundiron with British percussionist and media composer David Oliver playing. The Pearl DLX drums were sampled with several stick types, so the library covers everything from very loud to very soft playing. The set includes a range of cymbals, mostly Zildjian with some Sabian, Paiste and Wuhan pieces, plus a custom 20-inch crash ride. The library runs on the free Kontakt Player and loads as a standard set of Kontakt instrument presets.

Sound and Recording Approach

Soundiron sampled the drums at The Whitehouse Studios in the UK. The kick is an 18-inch drum, and the set includes a 12-inch rack tom and a 14-inch floor tom. The toms and snare use a mix of Evans, Remo and other heads, chosen for control and fidelity.

The kit was captured with a stereo overhead pair, close microphones, a mid-side front pair and figure-eight microphones. These five microphone positions give you several ways to shape the balance between close, room and overhead sound. The developer describes the kit as suitable for jazz, rock, pop and other genres that need realistic drums.

Kontakt Controls and Workflow

The library comes with 10 Kontakt instrument presets and a set of 81,163 stereo samples in locked NCW format. Samples are 24-bit, 48 kHz and stored losslessly.

The instruments are built for the Kontakt Player and are also made for Komplete Kontrol, S-Series keyboards and NKS software and hardware by Native Instruments. They can be found in the Kontakt Libraries browser and installed through Native Access.
