01Overview

Cryostasis works on the spectrum of your audio, so a sound can be smeared gradually into a frozen tail rather than cut off. A continuously variable freeze control lets you move between states or partially freeze a signal, while an auto switch can be timed in milliseconds or musical measures. Spectral controls shape the character of the frozen tail, and the effect is set up to handle everyday production tasks as well as sound design. The plugin runs in 64-bit internal processing at any sample rate.

Freeze Character and Sound Design Tools

The Size parameter sets the time length of the spectral window, which has a strong effect on the sound. The developer notes that low Size values sound unnatural and robotic, while higher values give a smoother, more atmospheric result.

The built-in pitch shifter can be coupled with the freeze to produce a tape-stop style slowdown that ends in a frozen sound. The frequency shifter can be used for dissonant risers and downshifters.

The Wash control diffuses the freeze into a modulated reverb-like tail, and the Bit and Rate reducers add lo-fi grit. Lower Size values combined with these reducers give dirty, glitchy textures.

Transitions, Workflow and Compatibility
