01Overview

Crumar Spirit is Cherry Audio's software recreation of the Spirit, an analog monophonic synthesizer released by Italian manufacturer Crumar in late 1983. The developer describes the instrument as a reimagining that keeps the original's character while adding modern features. Cherry Audio has expanded the modulation options, added multi-voice modes and included a set of presets in a dozen categories. The plugin is available as a standalone application and as a plug-in version.

Sound Architecture and Voice Modes

Spirit uses two oscillators with master tune, octave, waveshape and oscillator sync. Oscillator B can be switched to a fixed frequency in Bass or Wide ranges, which suits drones, audio-rate modulation or use as an additional LFO.

The filter section pairs a dedicated Upper low pass filter with a multimode Lower filter. The Lower filter includes a fixed formant option that adds vocal-like color, and keyboard tracking is available across the section.

Voice modes cover monophonic, unison, polyphonic with 4, 8 or 16 voices, and cycle. The multi-voice panels add three extra mini synth panels with their own pitch, pan, filter frequency and envelope settings, so each note can carry variation between voices.

Modulation, Arpeggiator and Effects

The Mod X and Shaper Y sections provide the main modulation routing, each assignable to dedicated mod wheels. The Matrix Z mod matrix has four slots that send modulation from one of 25 sources to any of 45 destinations, each with its own amount control.

The dynamic arpeggiator offers Ripple, Arp and Leap modes, with Swing, Chance and Feel controls for adding randomness to patterns. Two independent effect chains are included, covering distortion, flanger and chorus, echo, reverb, envelope filter and dual phaser, with a global effect modulator.

All controls support MIDI learn, mapping and DAW automation, and the instrument offers DAW sync and an adjustable oversampling control.
