Sound and Character of the CP3V Compressor

Mellowmuse says the analog-modeled saturation and compression stages add progressively more warmth at higher levels. The plugin is inspired in part by the 1176, a compressor known for its fast, punchy response.

The output-driven saturation is the main character control. Because it responds to how hard the signal is being compressed, the coloration grows with the compression rather than sitting on top of it. The developer positions this as a way to help a track cut through a mix.

VU-style metering shows how much gain reduction is being applied, so you can judge the amount of compression by eye as well as by ear.

Attack, Release and Ratio Controls

The variable attack runs from 0.01 to 100 ms, and the variable release runs from 10 to 500 ms. Together these ranges cover very fast transient control through to slower, more gradual leveling.
