01Overview

Celtic Instruments is built around a set of traditional sounds, led by Great Highland Pipes, Uilleann Pipes and Scottish Small Pipes. The library also covers Celtic Harp, Fiddle, Pennywhistle, Low Whistle, Bodhran and Harmonica, so you can build a full folk-style arrangement from one package. 03In depth

Traditional Celtic sounds and instrument range

The library focuses on bagpipes, which are its core. Included pipes are Great Highland Pipes, Uilleann Pipes, Scottish Small Pipes and North Umbrian Small Pipes. Alongside them are melodic and rhythmic instruments: Fiddle, Celtic Harp, Pennywhistle, Low Whistle, Harmonica, Accordion and Guitar tuned in D.

Percussion is covered by a Bodhran (Irish frame drum) and a Celtic Percussion patch. Together these let you write both melody lines and the rhythmic drive typical of Celtic folk music.

Workflow with Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol

Celtic Instruments runs inside Kontakt, so you need Kontakt 7 Player or Kontakt 7 (version 7.10.1) to load it. The library is designed for integration with Komplete Kontrol and Maschine. Big Fish Audio says the interface can be controlled from any NKS-compatible hardware, which keeps the instruments accessible during writing without switching to the mouse.

The interface is set up so that the essential controls are easy to reach, which helps when you are sketching parts quickly.
