01Overview

Zodiac contains more than 200 patches and Multis across six categories, covering pads, melodic and bass instruments, percussion, experimental sounds and kits. The developer says the library was made without synthesizers, drawing instead on found sounds, prepared instruments and heavily processed recordings. Many patches change character with register and held notes, so the same patch can behave like a pad in one octave and a percussive sound in another.

Sound Character and Patch Categories

Zodiac's sounds sit far from standard instrument models. Big Fish Audio describes them as ethereal soundscapes, inventive percussion and atonal textures that are hard to classify. You will not find conventional bass, guitar, keyboard or drum kit patches in the set.

The library is organized into Pads and Atmospheres, Melodic Instruments, Bass Instruments, Percussive Instruments, Experimental Instruments and Zodiac Kits. Many patches are designed to loop and morph while a key is held, which makes them useful as starting points for ambient beds and textures.

Controls for Shaping Sounds

The interface uses two banks of six levers, one labeled AMP ENV and one labeled DELAY. The AMP ENV bank covers attack, decay, sustain, release, tuning and reverb amount. The DELAY bank covers delay time, damping, panning, feedback, bass and treble.

Four white-tipped levers per side group related controls with a range of 0 to 10. Red-tipped levers handle other functions, and three of them range from -10 to +10. A drop-down menu holds fifteen convolution reverb impulse responses for changing the reverb character.
