01Overview

BUTE Limiter 2 (Surround) is the multi-channel version of Signum Audio's BUTE Limiter 2. Signum Audio describes its limiting as high fidelity and ultra-transparent, built on an overshoot-proof brickwall algorithm. The plugin supports up to 10 channels, which the developer positions for Atmos-style surround mixes. A Stereo version is also available. Included with the BUTE Loudness Suite, it is designed for producers who need precise control over peak levels across multi-channel masters.

Limiting Character and Metering Views

Signum Audio says BUTE Limiter 2 uses a novel overshoot-proof brickwall algorithm for true peak limiting. The plugin applies linear phase upsampling and offers an adaptive auto release with five selectable release curves.

The interface comes in three layouts: a resizable history view, a vertical metering view and a compact horizontal control view. The history view tracks true peak, true peak output, threshold and gain reduction, so you can review an overview of a full master or zoom into a specific section.

Gain Staging and Post-Gain Warnings

PreGain pushes or reduces the signal before limiting, and PostGain is applied after limiting. An automatic Max Target function is also included. The display can show either the limiter output alone or the overall output with Post-Gain applied.

If Post-Gain introduces true peak overshoots, the history view flags them with warnings. Automatic DAW sync re-meters the audio and updates the history when you change settings, so you can see how adjustments affect the signal.
