01Overview

Babylon 2.2 is the latest version of W. A. Production's one-page synth, rebuilt around multi-voice oscillators and morphing wavetables. The developer describes the update as a complete overhaul that keeps the original's simple layout while adding new oscillator modes, a wavetable editor, filter types and effects. It also adds microtonal tuning options and a modulation matrix. A trial version is available, and the plugin ships with 858 factory presets and a PDF manual with a tutorial video.

Wavetable Oscillators and Morphing Sound Design

The oscillators in Babylon 2.2 go beyond standard stereo unison and detuning. The new Multi mode blends waveforms smoothly, and Quad mode provides live morphing between sounds.

The Wavetable Editor lets you create and modify tables, or import your own WAV files. The update doubles the maximum number of tables and adds options to auto-transition parameters between tables, copy parameters to all tables, and shift cycles and trim tables.

The library includes more than 200 high-resolution waveforms, including formant and digital instrument sounds, with many variants of classic oscillator shapes.

Arpeggiator, Tuning and Modulation

Babylon 2.2 includes a new arpeggiator with an intelligent pattern generator. You shape patterns with population and complexity parameters.

The microtonal section lets you tune each individual note across 11 octaves in cents. The Scale Bank contains 23 standard scales and 34 additional scales, some using quarter tones.

Modulation has been expanded with a curve editor for envelope modulators, additional envelope followers and two new key-track modulators. The existing LFO, vibrato and envelope modulators remain available.
