01Overview

Karanyi Sounds built Analog Nightmares around the eerie, suspenseful sound of old horror soundtracks. The instrument combines sampled Eurorack modulars, DX21, OBX, Minilogue and PolySix sounds with analog-style filters, tape and bucket brigade delays, reverbs and distortion. Its randomizer can generate new starting points quickly, which suits producers who want atmospheric results without building patches from scratch.

Sound Design and Layered Synth Engine

The instrument uses four synth modules and one sub synth layer that can be blended together. Sounds come from Eurorack modulars, DX21, OBX, Minilogue and PolySix, with additional VHS tape and complex distortion effects processing the signal.

Each module offers Prophet-type low pass filters, EQs, two types of algorithmic reverb, two types of vintage delay (bucket brigade and tape), and two types of chorus (ensemble and dimension). The Sub Bass Module adds low-end warmth and comes in three flavors sampled from a vintage Oberheim synth.

Controls, Randomizer and Presets

The library includes over 160 controls, all MIDI-learnable, and 90+ factory and artist presets. Eight types of LFO filter and gain modulation, a master limiter and compressors, and tape-style pitch modulation give you detailed shaping options.

The randomizer, which Karanyi describes as its most advanced, offers over 40 random setups. It can randomize instrument sources, LFOs, effects, master EQs or everything at once with Smart Random All. Four articulation setups (Straight, Keys, Pads and Pluck) shape how notes respond.
