01Overview

Abbey Road Vinyl recreates the tonal character of records. Waves developed it in close collaboration with Abbey Road Studios, and the plugin covers the stages of making a record, from cutting the acetate master to the printed pressing and the playback chain. You can shape the sound at each stage, and it works on mixes, individual tracks, and masters alike. The effect ranges from pristine audiophile tones to rough, lo-fi club treatment.

Vinyl Stages You Can Shape

The plugin lets you choose between the original acetate lacquer master and the printed vinyl pressing, so you can decide which stage of the process colors the sound. Two turntable models are available: a pro mastering model and a consumer DJ type, each with its own tonal character. Three cartridge technologies add subtle differences in tone.

Tone arm control adjusts distortion and frequency response, giving you a way to push the sound from clean to colored. A slowdown and stop turntable effect can be controlled in beats or seconds, which suits transitions and breakdowns.

Crackle, Wow and Flutter for Retro Production

For retro production, the plugin adds crackles, pops, subtle hiss, and wow and flutter to model manufacturing imperfections. These effects can be blended in to give a sense of record wear without overwhelming the source.

The signal can also be routed through Abbey Road's EMI TG12410 mastering desk. Waves offers a Lite version that omits some functions to reduce CPU load, which helps on busy sessions.
