01Overview

SSD CLA Expansion brings drum sounds captured by engineer Chris Lord-Alge into the Steven Slate Drums ecosystem. The pack includes 12 drumkit presets built from snares, kicks, toms, cymbals and hi-hats. Chris Lord-Alge recorded the kits at OCEAN studios in Burbank and mixed them in his own Los Angeles mix room. The expansion works with the SSD Only Player and with Steven Slate TRIGGER, so producers can use the kits as a full drum instrument or as a sample layer for replacing and enhancing drums.

Chris Lord-Alge Drum Sounds and Processing

The kits were recorded in spring 2012 at OCEAN studios in Burbank. Chris Lord-Alge then mixed the drums in his classic style, using the same processing chains heard on his records. The developer also printed a sample layer of his SONY reverb unit onto the kicks and snares.

The developer describes the result as full, punchy drums that are ready to sit in a mix. The pack's main draw is this recorded and processed character, applied to a broad set of drum pieces.

Drum Kit Contents and Workflow

The expansion contains 12 snares, 11 kicks and 5 toms, along with 1 hi-hat, 4 crashes and 1 ride. Snares offer multiple articulations, which gives more control over the snare sound within a performance.

The kits run inside the SSD Only Player or through TRIGGER, which lets you layer these sounds under existing drum tracks. Steven Slate Drums is required to use the expansion.
