01Overview

Percussive Layers is an expansion pack for Devious Machines' Texture. It focuses on one-shot sounds for layering with drums, including transients, bass hits, impacts, sweeteners and tails. The developer designed the sounds for Texture's auto-triggering, so a kick or snare can be reinforced without manually placing each hit. The pack also includes about 100 presets to give you a starting point.

Sound Library and Drum Layering Content

The pack contains 650 sounds grouped by type. Bass material includes attacks, kickers and tails. Percussion covers claps, hi-hats, shakers, slaps, snares, snare rattles and hand percussion. Transient and attack categories include top-attacks, mid-attacks, mid-thumps and mid-hits, which can be layered under or over existing drums to add bite or body.

The library also includes fizzes, glitches, reverb tails, bells and general effects. Devious Machines says these can be used to create new versions of classic drum machine sounds or to enhance existing Foley and field recordings.

Using Percussive Layers with Texture

Because the sounds are built for Texture's auto-triggering, you can have the plugin trigger layers in time with your drum track. The developer lists several uses: adding attack transients to synths and bass, helping drums cut through a mix, and replacing an entire drum track with new samples automatically.

The about 100 presets give a starting point for these workflows. Producers working in drum production, sound design or bass music are the most likely audience for this kind of layering content.
