01Overview

Orchestral Violin 1 is built for producers who want a violin that can carry a melody at the front of a mix. Dreamtonics designed it to be played with notation, so you input your parts and let the instrument handle phrasing and articulation. It requires Instrument X as its host engine, which Dreamtonics includes for free with its Instrument Expansions. The expansion is aimed at composers and producers scoring orchestral or cinematic material who want a more organic string sound than static sample playback provides.

Performance Controls and Articulation Editing

The Unified Articulation Editor brings techniques into one interface, so you can manage articulations without switching between separate patches. You can stack and combine articulations on a single note, which lets you build hybrid performance textures.

Predictive dynamics assign dynamic levels based on pitch, note duration and phrasing, and a manual override lane gives you direct control when you need it. Automatic smart articulation handles technique choices for you, and AI Retakes can generate alternative takes of a phrase when you want a different performance.

Soloist to Section Workflow and Requirements

Unison mode supports up to 16 voices, so a single violin line can be expanded into a section. MusicXML import lets you bring in scores from notation software, with tempo, time signatures, articulations and dynamics carried over into the performance data.

The expansion runs with 100% local rendering and needs no internet connection. ARA support is available in compatible DAWs. Each instrument takes about 160MB of storage, and the system requirements are Windows 10/11 or macOS 11+, an Intel/AMD x64 or Apple Silicon CPU, 4 GB RAM minimum (8 GB recommended) and 2 GB of free disk space.
