01Overview

Orchestral Cello 1 is designed to run inside Instrument X, Dreamtonics' modeling engine for orchestral instruments. Instead of triggering static recordings, the engine generates legato, bow articulations and room interaction as the part plays. Dreamtonics describes the cello as a versatile voice that works both in ensemble and as a soloist. The expansion is aimed at producers who write notated or scored parts and want a cello that responds to articulation and dynamics.

Articulation and Dynamics Control in Instrument X

The Unified Articulation Editor puts performance techniques in one interface. Staccato, legato and tenuto sit alongside instrument-specific techniques, and articulations can be stacked on a single note to build hybrid textures.

Predictive dynamics map dynamics across an arrangement based on pitch, note duration and phrasing. A manual override lane lets you adjust dynamics where the automatic choices do not fit. Curve edits change the timbre, harmonic saturation and response of the cello, so a passage can be shaped as a player would shape it.

Automatic smart articulation is also included, and MusicXML import carries tempos, time signatures, articulations and dynamics into the session.

Sections, Retakes and Local Rendering

Unison mode can stack up to 16 voices, turning a single cello line into a section. Polyphony is handled by rendering overlapping notes as separate voices rather than cutting them off.

AI Retakes generate alternative performances of a selected phrase. You can regenerate a whole section or target specific elements such as timbre drift, micro-pitch curves or intensity.

Rendering happens locally, so no internet connection is needed. Each instrument takes about 160 MB of storage.
