01Overview

Orchestral Tuba 1 is built for Instrument X, the Dreamtonics engine that models live performance rather than playing back static samples. The expansion targets the tuba's low-brass role in orchestral writing, where weight and gravity anchor the ensemble. Instrument X handles legato, breath and room interaction in real time, and this expansion adds the tuba voice to that engine. It runs entirely on your computer with no internet connection needed.

Articulations, Dynamics and Retakes in Orchestral Tuba 1

The Unified Articulation Editor puts performance techniques in one interface, so you can stack and combine articulations on a single note. Predictive Dynamics maps dynamics across the arrangement based on pitch, note duration and performance flow, and a manual override lane lets you take over. Dreamtonics says Predictive Dynamics adjusts the instrument's timbre, harmonic saturation and response as the curve changes.

When a phrase is not working, AI Retakes generates alternative performance takes. You can re-roll a whole section or target timbre drift, micro-pitch curves or intensity separately.

Unison mode can layer up to 16 voices, which turns a single soloist line into a section.

Microphones, Notation Import and System Needs

The microphone mixer lets you balance spot mics, a Decca tree array and stereo room pairs in a 3D soundstage. Notation can be brought in through MusicXML support, and tempos, time signatures, articulations and dynamics translate into performance data on import.

The expansion is light on storage, at about 160MB per instrument. Supported DAWs can use ARA. The system requirements are Windows 10/11 or macOS 11+, an Intel/AMD x64 or Apple Silicon CPU, 4 GB RAM minimum with 8 GB recommended, and 2 GB of free disk space.
