01Overview

Blofeld License SL is a license upgrade from Waldorf that unlocks sample playback on the Blofeld Desktop module. It provides 60 MB of Sample Flash Memory for factory or user samples and multisamples. According to Waldorf, these samples pass through Blofeld's synthesis engine in the same way as its oscillators, so they can be filtered, modulated and shaped with the synth's existing tools. The package also bundles two soundsets, Technohouse and Alien Space Collaborative.

How Sample Playback Works in Blofeld Desktop

The License SL option turns the Blofeld Desktop into a sample-based instrument in addition to its analog-style synthesis. Waldorf says the samples and multisamples are routed through the synthesis engine just like the oscillators. That means you can apply Blofeld's filters, envelopes and modulation to recorded material instead of treating it as a separate playback layer.

The 60 MB of sample memory is shared between factory and user samples, so you can load your own material alongside the included sounds. Multisamples let you map different recordings across the keyboard range.

Included Soundsets and Typical Use

License SL comes with two soundsets: Technohouse, aimed at dance and electronic production, and Alien Space Collaborative, a set of more experimental sounds. Both are a starting point for sound design and can be edited like any other Blofeld patch.

The option suits producers who already use Blofeld Desktop and want to expand its sound palette with sampled material, without buying a separate sampler.
