Streichfett is a string synthesizer plugin by Waldorf, based on the sound engine of the Waldorf Streichfett hardware. It runs as VST3, VST2, AU and AAX on Windows and macOS.
Streichfett is Waldorf's software version of the Streichfett String Machine, a keyboard instrument modeled on the string synthesizers of the 1970s and early 1980s. Its dual sound engine combines a fully polyphonic strings section with an eight-voice solo section. The interface gives direct access to the main sound shaping parameters, and the presets you create can be saved for later use in your sessions.
The strings section is 128-voice fully polyphonic and can morph continuously between Violin, Viola, Cello, Brass, Organ, Choir and more. Registrations let you store and recall combinations of these sounds.
The Ensemble Effect adds depth and movement to the strings, and the Animate Effect modulates the strings registration for sweeping sound morphs. Waldorf describes the result as dense, floating pads built from a basic electronic sound.
The eight-voice solo section can morph continuously between Bass, E-Piano, Clavi, Synth and Pluto tones. You can layer or split it against the strings, and add tremolo to the solo sound.
The effects section includes Phaser and Reverb. Controls include Crescendo and Release pots, octave buttons for Base, Both or 8va, a Balance pot and two Ensemble Mode buttons. Poly and channel aftertouch, sustain pedal and modulation wheel support, and velocity-sensitive or fixed velocity playing are also included. Sixteen programmable presets are stored across two memory banks.
