01Overview

Vektor is a cinematic, string-based instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt. Its library combines organic recorded samples with manipulated material, including drones, synths and FX. Four independent sound sources can be blended through two manipulation pads, modulation and nine global effects. Users can also drag and drop their own samples into a source and have them mapped automatically, which makes Vektor useful for building both large orchestral-style textures and sparse, evolving pieces.

Best for

Sound Sources, Morphing and Movement

Vektor is built around four sound sources that can be blended and shaped separately. Each source has its own EQ, envelope and filter controls, along with tuning from plus or minus 36 semitones, panning, solo, power, random and reverse functions. Adjustable start and end points let you trim each sample.

The Source Movement pad changes the gain distribution between the four sources, and it can move horizontally, vertically or in a circular motion, clockwise or counterclockwise. The Filter Movement pad controls cutoff and resonance across all sources or per source. Movement can be synced to your DAW tempo or run free.

Modulation, Effects and Workflow

The modulation page offers four LFOs and four envelopes that can be assigned to many source parameters. Nine global effects, including chorus, distortion, spatial, phasis, flair, convolution, filter, delay and lo-fi, shape the final sound.

For quick exploration, the randomisation page can randomise source voices, source filters, XY motion, modulation, effects or everything at once. Snapshots are grouped into categories such as organic, rhythmic, drones, synths and trailer FX, giving a starting point before you edit.
