01Overview

Aleatoric, also marketed as Aleatoric Metamorphic Movement (AMM), is a multi-voice textural instrument that runs inside Kontakt. Its four sample sources each hold one of 305 included samples, ranging from tonal woodwinds and string sounds to ambient wind and water recordings. Loot Audio positions it as a tool for atmospheric sampling, and the sample library is broad enough to cover many different production styles.

Sound Design Workflow and Manipulation Pads

The core of Aleatoric is its two manipulation pads. The Source Movement pad controls the gain distribution ratio between the four sources, so the balance of the layers shifts as you move the pad. The Filter Movement pad controls filter cutoff and resonance, either across all sources or per source.

Each pad includes Horizontal, Vertical and Circular modulation units, which set how the pad's motion is driven. Together with the per-source EQ, envelope and filter controls, this lets you build sounds that change over time without programming every parameter by hand.

Modulation, Effects and Randomisation

The Edit Modulation menu provides four LFO modules and four envelope modules that can target any source parameter. This makes it possible to set up complex, evolving movement across the instrument.

The Edit Effects menu includes nine effects modules: Chorus, Distortion, Lo-Fi (Bitcrusher), Replika Delay, Spatial (Stereo Field Enhancer), Filter, Phasis (Phaser), Convolution (Reverb) and Flair (a tuned, harmonics-enhancing flanger). The Edit Randomise page lets you choose which parameter sets are affected when you randomise, so you can explore new sounds without losing settings you want to keep.
