01Overview

V-AMP is an effects plugin from Antelope Audio that models a common-cathode tube preamp stage alongside a cabinet convolution engine. Antelope Audio describes it as a tool for moving from subtle crunch to full overdrive and bass boost. Its controls cover drive, tone stack, presence, bass boost and input and output gain, so guitarists and producers can shape a tone from clean to high gain inside their DAW.

Cabinet and Microphone Options

V-AMP includes five cabinet models recreated with circular convolution: Sherrif 800 (4x12), Tender Twin (2x12), Orange Grit (4x12), Voice 5 Teen (1x12) and Amaze G52 (1x12). Antelope Audio says each was measured with various microphones.

The plugin also offers five virtual microphone profiles: S906, Sydney 1A, Illinois 57, Vienna 112 and Sydney 4 in left and right options. Switching mics changes the frequency response of the captured cabinet sound, which lets you adjust the tone without re-recording.

Signal Flow and Tone Controls

The signal path starts with a 10 Hz high-pass filter, followed by a filter that models tube frequency response. Processing uses oversampling and non-linear static curves to emulate tube distortion, with a DC-removing high-pass and anti-aliasing filters applied to keep high-gain tones clean.

The Drive and Crunch controls set the amount of distortion. The tone stack covers low, mid and treble, and Presence adds high-frequency bite. Bass Boost adds up to 6 dB of low-frequency content, while the IN and OUT gain stages set levels before and after the preamp.
