01Overview

UNMASK is built around the idea that much of a sound's detail is hidden by louder neighboring frequencies and by strong transients. Three dedicated modules, SPEC, TILT and TIME, each work on one perceptual dimension and are controlled by a single Depth knob. The plugin is available as a 64-bit effect in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats on Windows and macOS.

Best for

  • Vocal clarity in dense mixes
  • Cleaning up drum transients
  • Balancing tonal slope
  • Vocal and instrumental blending
  • Live processing with low latency
  • Stereo channel processing

How UNMASK Reveals Hidden Detail and Balances Tone

SPEC handles the frequency domain. Developer Three-Body Technology says it lifts spectral detail that is buried under dominant neighbors while pulling back peaks that obscure it, continuously and dynamically.

TILT analyzes the spectral envelope in real time and nudges it toward a target slope of -3, -4.5 or -6 dB per octave, a contour similar to pink or brown noise.

TIME addresses the time domain. It detects the quieter sound that follows a strong transient, such as the body after a snare hit or the sustain behind a pick attack, and recovers it across the spectrum.

Mixing Vocals Against Instrumentals with EXT Glue

EXT Glue is UNMASK's approach to sidechaining. Rather than ducking or compressing, it analyzes the mutual masking between two signals and works to resolve the conflicts between them.

Route an instrumental into the external sidechain and the vocal is designed to blend into the mix, sharing spectral space, envelope shape and temporal dynamics instead of sitting on top of it.

Precision controls such as gain range, processing frequency range and the Priority Curve let you limit where and how hard UNMASK acts.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does UNMASK support?

UNMASK is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats as a 64-bit plugin.

Which operating systems can run UNMASK?

UNMASK runs on Windows and macOS. The developer lists macOS 10.15 and Windows 8 as minimum versions, with 4GB of RAM and 250MB of disk space.

What do I need to use UNMASK?

You need a host that supports one of the listed plugin formats. The developer lists an Intel or AMD CPU with SSE 4.1 or an Apple Silicon Mac.

Does UNMASK add latency?

By default it uses linear-phase filters. Zero Latency Mode switches to minimum-phase filters, which the developer says add zero samples of delay.
