Sound, Processing and Key Controls

The SMC 2B Multiband Compressor is a three-band opto-style compressor that Softube describes as an expert emulation of the renowned three-band opto comp. It offers stereo processing via linked or selectable Dual Mono operation.

The CL 1B Mk II includes the legacy CL 1B compressor alongside a remodel built on newer signal processing. A Generation Switch moves between the Mk I and Mk II sound, and the same switch is available on Classic Channel Mk II. The CL 1B adds side-chain low-cut filters and parallel blend.

Classic Channel Mk II combines both generations of the CL 1B with PE 1C and ME 1B tube-driven passive equalizers and adds mid/side processing.

Who the Collection Suits and How It Is Used

Softube suggests the CL 1B Mk II suits hip hop, vocals, drums and bass, while the Equalizers Mk II can be applied to drums, synths, vocals, guitars, strings and bass.

Mid/side processing lets you treat the center and sides differently, for example compressing a kick and snare differently from overheads, or low-cutting the detector of the mid portion when working on vocal balance during mastering.

The Equalizers Mk II also run as native plugins and inside Console 1, which is useful if you use Softube's hardware controller.
