01Overview

The Orbitone Collection I and II is a pair of sample libraries that recreate sounds captured through the chorus circuitry of the 1972 Eminent 310 Unique. Loot Audio routed instruments including the Novachord, Juno-106, CS-01 and Crumar Bit One through the Orbitone stages, then sampled the results. The collection is built around a 4-voice layering engine, so you can stack instruments as voices and save your own patches.

Analog Strings and Textures Sampled Through the Orbitone

The Orbitone is a triple parallel analog chorus processor with six free-running LFOs, originally used to make a single rank of sawtooth waves sound like three. Loot Audio used it as a processing stage for new source material. Sources include the Novachord, which the developer describes as producing some of its most organic synth strings, along with the Juno-106, CS-01 and Omega 8.

The library also includes brass and guitar timbres, a resonator choir made by feeding the Juno-106 through a rehoused Polymoog Formant Resonator, and organ stops sampled directly from the Eminent. A harpsichord patch was captured from a Polymoog 203A 3211, which Loot Audio notes was dialed in with help from Will Gregory of Goldfrapp.

Layering Engine and Patch Structure

The 4-voice layering engine lets you combine up to four instruments in one patch. Each of the 48 multi-sampled instruments can act as a voice or partial inside that engine. Collection II uses the same engine as the original release, running on a new sample set built from a different mix of source instruments and techniques.

The library ships with 80 editable instrument patches in .nki format and 40 editable layered multis. Twenty multis combine patches from Collection II, and twenty combine patches from both libraries. The two libraries are presented as one merged installation, so you can browse patches from both in a single set.
