The Cuatro is a sample-based instrument built for Kontakt, recorded from a long-neck cuatro with 17 frets. Loot Audio says the library was created by composer Guillermo Guareschi and recorded in a new studio, with sampling and scripting techniques developed for this release. It is designed for producers who want the sound of the instrument in South American music as well as in pop, chill out, world and film scoring.

Each note is sampled with four dynamic layers and four round robins per dynamic, giving 16 samples per note. The library includes 12 articulations, among them chords and palm mutes, and a total of 3860 samples across four microphone positions.

Beyond the standard articulations, the instrument offers three additional modes: Octave, Double Cuatro and Andean Tuning. Loot Audio describes these as tools for building fuller arrangements, whether for ensembles or solo cuatro pieces.

Using The Cuatro in Modern Productions

The instrument has an open, organic tone that takes effects well. Producers can route it through reverb, EQ, delay, chorus or phaser. Loot Audio positions it for South American music, but also for pop, chill out, world music and film scores.

The library is delivered as 24-bit WAV files and runs inside the full version of Kontakt, version 5.6 or later. It is not compatible with the free Kontakt Player.
