01Overview

Tapes M400 is built from chromatic samples of the Mellotron M400, one of the earliest Mellotron models from the 1970s. The library focuses on the three most iconic Mellotron voices: strings, choir and flutes. Each tape was recorded chromatically for its full length, so you can play the sounds as the classic tape-based instrument or loop them. A set of built-in effects completes the vintage character for producers working in Kontakt.

Mellotron Strings, Choir and Flute Sounds

The instrument covers the three core voices of the early Mellotron: strings, choir and flutes. Each sound was recorded chromatically across the full length of its tape, which means the samples give you the full tape performance rather than a short loop.

You can play the sounds in the classic way, letting each tape run its natural length, or loop them for sustained pads and textures. Both approaches stay close to the character of the original instrument.

Effects, Controls and Cabinet Options

Tapes M400 includes five effects chosen to match the sound of 1970s recordings: chorus, rotator, tape delay, reverb and a cabinet section with 11 different cabinet types.

The main menu gives direct access to reverb and delay send levels, high-pass and low-pass filters, envelope attack and release, pitch-bend amount, mechanical noise amount and stereo width. These controls let you shape the sound quickly without digging into deeper settings.
