Tape-Style Kalimba Sound and Character
The kalimba in TAPED is shaped by saturation and wow and flutter, the pitch and tone variations associated with tape playback. KLANG says the goal was to bring back the warmth and imperfection of older recordings rather than a clean, digital kalimba.
The instrument blends wood and metal tonalities, reflecting the mix of kalimba and xylophone recordings used during development. A decay layer adds to the percussive, warm character the developer aimed for.
The result suits producers who want lo-fi, textured melodic percussion instead of a pristine sample.
