01Overview

Sub Cut focuses on the lowest part of the frequency range. Its filters are tuned for 220Hz and below, so the cut is meant to sit in the low end without thinning out the rest of the sound. You can use it to remove sub-bass that is not doing useful work, or to make room when two bass sounds compete. It is available as a VST3, AU and AAX plugin on Windows and macOS.

Automatic and manual low-end cutting

In AUTO mode, Sub Cut analyses the incoming audio in real time and follows the notes of the source material. The cutoff moves to remove as much low-frequency energy as possible. Iceberg Audio offers Fast, Default and Slow settings so you can match the response to how quickly your material changes.

If you prefer manual control, you can choose from three roll-off frequencies. You can also select cutoffs by note, such as G2, so the roll-off starts only below that pitch. This helps keep the musical content of a bass line intact while removing the unwanted low end beneath it.

Testing the cut with test tones

Clicking the waveform lets you switch quickly between your audio and test tones while you adjust the cut. This makes it easier to hear exactly which low frequencies are being removed. The developer describes the filters as designed to sound accurate to musical ears and to leave the remaining material clean.

The plugin can also be used to isolate problematic frequencies in a mix or in your studio setup.
