Four Tape Machines and Their Character
Slower's samples were recorded to four types of tape machine: a Studer A812 and Revox PR99 in the studio category, Uher 4400 Report recorders as portable reel-to-reel units, a Tascam Portastudio 424mkiii cassette machine, and a Sony M650v micro cassette dictaphone. Each machine gives a different result at half speed. The Studer A812 offers a fuller, more faithful tone, while the Sony M650v adds a lo-fi crunch.
Because the four machines are available side by side, you can choose the flavor that suits a track rather than relying on a single fixed tape sound.
