01Overview

RX950 Classic AD/DA Converter is Inphonik's first effect plugin. It is built to recreate the whole conversion process of the Akai S950, the sampler from the 1980s known for its 12-bit character. Rather than offering a generic bitcrusher, it focuses on the specific signal path of the original hardware, including its filter and bandwidth behavior. The plugin is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats across Windows, macOS and Linux.

Sound Character and Core Controls

The plugin centers on four controls. Input Gain pushes the signal into the S950's distortion, adding warm grit that helps a sound stand out in a mix. Audio Bandwidth sets the target sample rate and the conversion circuitry, introducing a subtle aliasing effect. The Filter control engages the S950's steep low-pass filter, which can be applied to individual elements or to a bus or master channel.

A Brilliance setting, found in the Settings and back panel, adjusts the high-frequency response of the audio bandwidth, giving you a way to shape the top end after conversion.

Built for Vintage Sampler Tone in Modern Sessions

Inphonik describes the RX950 as the result of more than a year spent studying the S950 to carry its character into a modern DAW. It runs in stereo or mono and is designed for low CPU use, so it can be placed across many channels.

The interface can be scaled from 1x to 2.5x, and parameter values can be typed in with a double-click, which helps when setting exact values during a session.
