01Overview

PSP DRC is a dynamic processor developed by PSP Audioware and classed in the Effects category as a compressor. It draws on the classic DBX 118 concept but reimagines it rather than copying the hardware. The plugin can apply compression and expansion across the whole dynamic range of a signal, and it can isolate and process material above or below the threshold. It runs as a plugin in your digital audio workstation on Windows and macOS.

Compression and expansion across the full dynamic range

PSP DRC is built around processing that covers the entire dynamic range of the signal. Rather than working only on peaks, it lets you shape both loud and quiet content, which makes it useful for controlling dynamics in either direction.

The plugin can also isolate and handle signals above or below the threshold. This gives you finer control over which part of the signal is affected, so you can address specific dynamic problems without treating the whole track the same way.

Compander setup and side chain control

PSP DRC includes a complementary compressor-expander pair function. You can create this pairing by setting the ratio to 2:1 in the compressor and to 1:2 in the expander, which turns the plugin into a compander system.

Advanced side chain features and external side chain support extend the control options. Using an external side chain lets the detection signal come from a different source than the audio being processed.
