Sound Character and Recording Approach

The instrument is built from 783 samples captured at three mic positions: a ribbon pair (Coles 4038), an AKG 414 BULS, and a Neumann KM184 placed to capture the room. Each note was recorded at three velocity levels, and the layers were phase aligned to produce a smooth, dynamic response.

The recordings were made in a large live room with an arched ceiling. The signal path used API and Neve 1073 preamps and Prism conversion. Loot Audio describes the result as a deep and realistic plucked piano.

Controls and Workflow in Kontakt

Plucked Piano uses a custom interface that gives direct control over the sound without a deep menu structure. The developer positions it as a tool for creating a distinctive, varied instrument for composition, so it suits writing parts and sketching ideas as well as finishing a production.

Because it runs inside Kontakt, it can be played from any MIDI keyboard or controller your setup already uses.
