01Overview

Opalescence is built around cinematic pad design. Its two modules pair orchestral sound sources with wavetable synthesis, so you can blend acoustic-style textures with electronic tones. Each module has its own filters, envelopes and volume control, and a set of sequenced effects that make the sound move over time. The developer describes the range as covering everything from lush, creamy pads to aggressive, dirty ones. The instrument ships with 15 presets designed with film music composers in mind.

Sound Sources and Sound Character

Module A holds 15 orchestral instruments, including cello and viola sections, double bass, french horn, flute, oboe, trumpet and organ. Several of them come with different articulations, playing techniques and dynamics.

Module B uses two separate wavetables. Each wavetable offers a wide range of waveforms, from a simple sine to much more complex shapes, which gives you a route to synthetic and aggressive tones alongside the orchestral material.

Each module has its own high-pass and low-pass filter, volume control and ADSR envelopes, so the two layers can be shaped independently before they are combined.

Sequenced Effects and Master Processing

Each module has a Designer page with 11 sequenced effects, including lo-fi, drive, chorus, flanger, articulation and PWM. These effects run in sequence, which is how the pads can change shape over the course of a note.

The Master FX page adds reverb, a delay with modern, tape and diffusion modes, and a 3-band EQ to the combined output. The instrument also includes a hidden stereo-width feature for maximum spread.

The instrument requires the full version of Kontakt 6.5.2 or later. It will not run in the free Kontakt Player.
