NEON is designed around the tight, snappy drum sound and driving rhythmic feel associated with nu disco and dance-pop. Its rhythm engine is built to add the organic liveliness of a human drummer to a production. Sound, kits and the Real/Glam slider

The five drum kits are vintage kits from makers such as Ludwig and Rogers. UJAM describes them as recorded in a small booth with era-specific microphones and outboard processing, then run through a modern mixing console inside the plugin.

The Real/Glam slider moves each kit from natural and open to processed and punchy. Six mix presets, including Snap, Crunch and Glossy, give quick control over the overall drum character. Each kit includes seven individual drums plus overhead and room mics, and the optional separate outputs let you process close mics, overheads and room separately.

Workflow with style phrases and MIDI

Each of the 30 styles includes 23 phrases that you can select and combine for intros, verses, choruses and fills. You can drag any phrase into your DAW as a MIDI clip to edit it, or trigger ready-made grooves through single MIDI keys in time with your DAW's tempo.

The plugin also ships with 100 presets. These work as starting points, so you can get a groove on the timeline quickly and then adjust the phrases and outputs to suit your mix.

What formats and operating systems does NEON support?

NEON is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS. All plugin formats are 64-bit only, and the AU version works only with Logic Pro X and newer.

What do I need to run NEON?

The listed requirements are Windows 10 or 11, or macOS Big Sur (11) through macOS Tahoe (26), with support for Intel and Apple silicon Macs. You need 8GB of RAM, 1.4GB of free disk space, a 1280x768 display and an internet connection. UJAM recommends an SSD if you move the .blob file to an external drive.
