01Overview

Multiphonics CV-3 treats sound design as a patching environment. You connect modules inside a rack to build instruments or effects chains, or you load one of the 550 factory patches as a starting point. The plugin is built on the developer's physical modeling technology and includes generators, filters, CV generators, sequencers and more. Its integrated module and patch browser helps you find and place components quickly, and a standalone instrument version is included.

Modular Sound Design and Key Modules

Multiphonics is organized around a large set of modules grouped by function. The module breakdown includes 10 generators, 12 filters, 9 CV generators, 5 maths and logic modules, 7 shapers, 12 signal processors, 2 VCAs and 5 visualizers, along with clocks and sequencers and mixers.

Version 3.1 adds FM oscillators, physical modeling oscillators and polyphony. The new CV quick-connect feature speeds up patching, and you can duplicate modules with or without their connections.

Expressivity, Patches and Learning Curve

Multiphonics supports MPE, and the developer notes a curated selection of patches designed for leading MPE controllers. Direct access to MIDI control and expression signals is available, and macro modules let you map multiple parameters to one control.

The factory library contains 550 instrument and effects patches you can play as they are or modify. An on-screen keyboard lets you preview patches without a controller. An in-depth online manual and a series of tutorials are available for users who are new to modular synthesis.
