01Overview

Transparency is the fourth title in Applied Acoustics Systems' Sound Bank Series and the third made by sound designer Daniel Stawczyk for Ultra-Analog VA-3. The bank focuses on the percussive side of the synthesizer, with drum and loop material alongside atmospheric and synth patches. Stawczyk describes its aesthetic as mysterious and exotic, and says the presets aim to add pulse, motion and relief to a track. The bank also includes some patches beyond the drum focus, which he says he added because he wanted more inspiring sounds in the set.

Drum, Loop and Percussion Sounds in Transparency

The bank is built around percussive sounds. It includes kick, snare and hi-hat presets, along with percussion loops, giving producers a set of rhythmic starting points within the Ultra-Analog VA-3.

Daniel Stawczyk says that Ultra-Analog VA-3 is not a drum-dedicated instrument, yet he found that building a mostly drum-oriented bank did not require as much effort as expected. Applied Acoustics Systems presents this as evidence that the synth can adapt to different sonic needs.

Ambient, Synth and Effect Presets

Beyond drums and loops, the 149 presets include ambient, synth and effect sounds. Stawczyk says he chose to add these additional patches on top of the percussion material, so the bank covers more than rhythm.

Because the set mixes these categories, it can serve as a single source for both the rhythmic and the textural layers of a track, with the synth patches and effects available alongside the drum sounds.

Requirements for Using the Transparency Sound Bank

Transparency works in two ways. If Ultra-Analog VA-3 is installed on your computer, the bank is added to it automatically as Ultra-Analog VA-3 Reverence. Without Ultra-Analog VA-3, you can still play the presets through the free AAS Player plug-in, which runs as a plug-in or as a standalone application.
